The SomnoSuite is a digital vaporizer that is specifically
designed to deliver gas and anesthetic liquid levels for
safe and accurate delivery of anesthetic gases.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The SomnoSuite is a digital vaporizer that is
specifically designed to deliver gas and anes-
thetic liquid levels for safe and accurate deliv-
ery of anesthetic gases. The vaporizer uses less
than 0.3ml of isoflurane during a typical 30-minute
procedure on a mouse.
An internal pump delivers either room air or com-
pressed gas, such as oxygen, can be used. The SomnoSuite is capable of
safely maintaining a mouse under anesthesia at a flow rate of less than
50ml/min. The capacity to deliver room air or oxygen at such a low flow
rate allows you to use a low level of isoflurane.

Dangerous exposure of lab personnel to anesthetic
gases from human-sized vaporizers belching excessive
amounts of waste anesthetic. OSHA states, “Some
potential effects of exposure to waste anesthetic gases
are nausea, dizziness, headaches, fatigue, and irritability, as well as sterility, miscarriages, birth defects, cancer,
and liver and kidney disease, among operating room staff
or their spouses (in the case of miscarriages and birth
defects). Employers and employees should be aware of the
potential effects and be advised to take appropriate precautions.”1
Small laboratory animals are 200-2,500 times smaller than humans,
they require much less anesthetic gas. Most labs lack the proper ventilation to evacuate the excess gas. Anesthesia machines are either connected to a charcoal canister or work must done inconveniently in a
hood. Charcoal canisters are quickly depleted and then leak anesthetic.
A low-dose, low flow digital anesthesia system that delivers the correct
amount of anesthetic for the size of the animal. This reduces the possibility of exposure of lab personnel to excessive waste gas.
